Ok, so you know who and what your character is. Now it's time to make a background story. How did your character become what he is?

First we will start with the format of a background. The background section of your character profile generally shouldn't exceed three paragraphs. Yeah, it can be fun to give precise details of what happened to your character before, but to be frank, it is annoying for the moderators to have to read a novel when they just want to see if your profile qualifies for play. There are background story threads in each RP, so the big stories should go there.

Now, for the actual background, there are a couple things you have to keep in mind. First, keep it realistic. No one is going to believe you fought off a dozen Death Eaters without a wand at the age of five after they murdered your parents. Meaningful accomplishments are fine, but keep in mind a person's actual abilities. Second, take the background story in the RP into account. If your background story conflicts with past events, then your profile will be denied until you make the required changes.

So remember, keep your story between one and three paragraphs, and make it so that it sounds believable.
